🍉Maths & Literacy – Our “Half Book” ½

To deepen our understanding of fractions, the children created their own small book called “The Half Book.” The class voted on the title and designed the books using a simple folding template. In their own words and drawings, the children explained what a fraction is and showed examples of halves in everyday life, such as cutting an apple in half or showing that two halves make a whole.
Once the books were finished, we visited the other First Class classrooms, where each child had the opportunity to read their book aloud and teach the concept of halves to other pupils. The children loved being in the “teacher’s role,” explaining their learning and sharing their work with others.
During our end-of-day reflection, many children said that this was their favourite part of the day — not only because they could teach others, but also because they got to visit other classrooms and see friends, neighbours, and cousins they might not usually meet during the school day.
The children were incredibly proud of their books and enjoyed the experience so much that many chose to create additional books afterwards to continue practising and teaching the skill.
Well done to the class for their creativity, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning and teaching others! 📚✨
