Literacy Week
Literacy Week was celebrated in our school from 27th February to 6th March, coinciding with World Book Day on 5th March. The week was filled with fun and engaging activities designed to promote a love of reading, writing and storytelling across all classes.
The week began with a special library visit for 1st and 2nd classes, along with a shared reading activity where they paired up with the infant classes to read stories together. This was a wonderful experience for all involved, with the older pupils taking great pride in reading to the younger children.
Junior Infants also enjoyed a visit from storyteller Helena Byrne, who captivated the children with her wonderful storytelling. Helena commented on the fantastic engagement and enthusiasm shown by the pupils during her sessions.
Throughout the week, pupils took part in a “Very Hungry Caterpillar” treasure hunt, where pictures from the story were displayed around the school. The children worked together to find them all, making it a highlight of the week for many.
The celebrations concluded with our World Book Day event, themed “Cosy Up with Your Favourite Book.” Pupils were invited to wear their pyjamas and bring in their favourite book to share with their class. To finish the week, 1st and 2nd classes once again visited the infant classrooms—this time reading stories they had written themselves. The children were incredibly proud of their work and loved sharing their stories.
Overall, Literacy Week was a great success, helping to foster a love of reading, writing and creativity that we hope will continue to grow for years to come.
