🌼 Science – The Life Cycle of a Plant 🌱

Our learning continued as we explored the life cycle of plants, inspired by a thoughtful contribution from one of the children who brought in a real daffodil from their garden 🌼
The class carefully observed the flower and identified its different parts. The children were particularly interested in finding the pollen, which led to meaningful discussion about how plants grow and reproduce.
We explored the stages of the plant life cycle:
- Pollination – Pollen is transferred by insects (such as bees or butterflies) from one flower to another
- Fertilisation – The pollen joins with parts inside the flower to begin the formation of seeds
- Germination – The seed begins to grow roots and a shoot when it has water, air, and warmth
- Flowering – The plant grows and produces a flower
- Seed Dispersal – Seeds are spread by wind, animals, or water to grow new plants
The children made excellent connections between plants and insects, developing an understanding of how living things depend on one another within natural environments.
This activity supported the development of:
- Understanding of plant life cycles
- Observation and hands-on exploration skills
- Scientific vocabulary
- Making real-life connections to nature
It was wonderful to see the children so engaged in exploring a real plant and confidently sharing their observations and ideas. 🌿✨
