🦋 Science – The Life Cycle of a Butterfly 🌿
18th Mar 2026

The children explored the life cycle of a butterfly through hands-on activities, discussion, and investigation.
We learned about the four key stages:
Egg → Caterpillar → Chrysalis → Butterfly
Using our tuff tray, the children created and explored a detailed butterfly habitat. They used natural materials such as leaves, sticks, and flowers to represent where butterflies live and grow. This supported their understanding by helping them visualise each stage in a meaningful, real-world context.
The children discussed:
- How a caterpillar grows and changes over time
- What happens inside the chrysalis
- How butterflies emerge and begin to fly
- The importance of flowers as a food source for butterflies
This activity supported the development of:
- Understanding of life cycles in nature
- Observation and investigation skills
- Scientific vocabulary
- Curiosity and questioning
The children were highly engaged throughout and demonstrated a strong understanding of how living things grow and change. 🦋🌿✨
