🎨 Fruit Portraits Inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo 🍎🍐🍊🥒

The children created imaginative fruit portraits inspired by the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who was famous for creating faces using fruits, vegetables, plants, and natural objects.
To begin, the class explored real fruits such as apples, bananas, oranges, watermelon, pineapple, avocado, and cucumber. The children carefully observed their shapes, colours, and textures before using them as inspiration for their artwork. Once their portraits were complete, each child matched the fruit shapes in their picture to the real fruit on the table and shared their ideas with the teacher and the class.
We then enjoyed tasting some of the fruit together, and left a few pieces out to observe what happens when fruit is exposed to air, linking the activity to our Science Week investigations.
This project was also linked with Maths, as the children discussed how many fruits relate to 2D and 3D shapes, such as spheres, cylinders, and cones. The following day, the children used soft pastels to add highlights and shadows, helping their fruit appear more three-dimensional and realistic.
This activity linked Visual Arts, Science, Maths, and Oral Language, encouraging observation, creativity, and discussion about the natural world.
