🎨 Exploring Colour Mixing and Blending in Art

The children recently explored colour mixing and blending techniques while creating beautiful painted backgrounds for two upcoming artworks.

Using oil paints, the class reviewed what they had learned about primary colours (red, yellow, and blue) and how these combine to create secondary colours (orange, green, and purple). The children experimented with mixing colours and blending them smoothly across the page using rollers and brushes, creating striking gradient effects.

During the activity, the children observed how colours change when mixed and how different amounts of paint can affect the final result. They also learned that oil paints behave differently from other paints and require more effort and control to blend, which helped them develop patience and persistence while working carefully.

This lesson supported the development of several important skills:

  • Understanding primary and secondary colours

  • Colour mixing and blending techniques

  • Fine motor control when using rollers and brushes

  • Observation and experimentation

  • Patience and perseverance while working with materials

The children worked very hard on their backgrounds, and these colourful pieces will soon become part of two beautiful artworks that we will create in the next stage of our art project. 🎨✨
