🤖 Beebots – Early Coding and Problem Solving 🐝

🤖 Beebots – Early Coding and Problem Solving 🐝

The children had a fantastic time exploring Beebots, developing early coding skills through hands-on, play-based learning.

They learned how to give clear instructions (commands) to the Beebots, using the buttons to move forward, backwards, and turn left and right. The children practised planning sequences of movements, predicting outcomes, and then testing and adjusting their ideas.

Using various mats and a variety of objects, the children engaged in creative challenges such as:

  • Pushing and pulling objects using the Beebots (e.g. moving pencils or pom poms)
  • Guiding pom poms into a circle or onto a target (star)
  • Creating mini races between Beebots
  • Role-playing real-life scenarios, such as shopping in the community
  • Navigating fields with obstacles, planning routes carefully to avoid them

These activities encouraged the children to think beyond simple movement and apply their learning in creative and purposeful ways.

Throughout the session, the children developed:

  • Sequencing and logical thinking
  • Early computational thinking and coding concepts
  • Problem-solving and debugging (fixing mistakes)
  • Directional language (forwards, backwards, left, right, turn)
  • Spatial awareness and planning
  • Collaboration, turn-taking, and communication

The session also supported creativity and experimentation, as the children explored different ways to use the Beebots and tested their own ideas.

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, motivated, and confident, celebrating their successes as they solved challenges and improved their plans.

A highly enjoyable and meaningful introduction to coding through play, exploration, and teamwork. 🐝✨
