🎨 Art – Observing the Tallaght Mountains

For this art project, the children observed the Tallaght Mountains during our nature walk. They were further inspired by photographs of the mountains taken this year, which we compared with photographs from last year. This helped us discuss how weather, seasons, and colours in the landscape change over time.
The children then created their own landscape paintings of the mountains. During the lesson, we focused on different types of lines in art, including contour and form lines, and the children practised using a variety of line types when outlining their work with markers.
They also learned about the rule of thirds, an important idea in art and landscape composition, which helped them think carefully about how to place the mountains, sky, and land in their pictures.
This activity helped the children develop:
-
Observation skills
-
Understanding of line, form, and composition in art
-
Creativity and artistic expression
-
Fine motor skills
The finished artworks were displayed together on our Art Wall, creating a beautiful gallery of the Tallaght Mountains through the children’s eyes. 🎨⛰️
